Scientists Add Kidney Damage To The List of Mobile Phone Ills
From mainly The Daily Mail. By Sarah Harris

Kidney damage from mobiles
Mobile phones were at the centre of a new health scare last night after claims they can seriously damage the heart and kidneys.
Earlier reports have already linked their use to brain tumours, headaches and premature ageing. Now scientists say exposure to the phones' low-level radiation causes red blood cells to leak haemoglobin. The build-up of haemoglobin, which carries oxygen around the body, can lead to heart disease and kidney stones.
The findings will heighten alarm over the safety of mobile phones which are used by more than 13 million people in Britain. In the latest research, scientists exposed samples of blood to varying degrees of microwave radiation for periods between ten to 60 hours.
Even at lower levels than those emitted by mobile phones, the cells leaked haemoglobin. Professor Edward Tuddenham, a haemotologist at the Imperial College Medical School based in Hammersmith Hospital, West London, said the findings were worrying and he wanted to see the study followed up. 'The accumulation of haemoglobin in the body could result in heart disease or kidney stones,' he warned.
The Department of Health said yesterday that the new study - carried out at the European Research Institute for Electronic Components in Bucharest - would be examined by a Government-appointed committee due to report on phone safety next year.
However, the Cambridge based consumer group Powerwatch head of research Alasdair Philips said with evidence of the risks growing the government needed to do more.
"We are still very much investigating the biological consequences of mobile phones. But there certainly seems to be enough laboratory studies now saying there are effects, to be very concerned,".
Last month, scientists at Sweden's Lund University found that two minutes of exposure to emissions from mobile phones can disable a safety barrier in the blood causing proteins and toxins to leak into the brain.
This can increase the chances of developing diseases such as Alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's. The Federation of the Electronics Industry yesterday repeated its claim that there was no conclusive proof that the phones were a health hazard. A spokesman said mobiles operated within strict guidelines on radiation emissions. "The consensus of scientific opinion is that there is no consistent evidence that mobile phones operating within these guidelines have any adverse health effects," he said.
I say notice the qualifications gradually creepuing in their utterances as we keep the pressure on, it is now 'consensus' and 'consistent' evidence needed. Well leaving aside the unhappy fact there is this type of evidence! No longer dare the 'deniers' claim "there is no evidence" as they used to a couple of years ago. We claim there is consistent evidence of damage at the cellular level with membranes and systemic level too: cardiac, neurological, hormonal (of the immune system), respiratory and gastric. If mobiles were food or medicines they would never have been allowed untested.

The DNA in living cells recognizes electromagnetic fields at very low levels of exposure; and produces a biochemical stress response. The scientific evidence tells us that our safety standards are inadequate, and that we must protect ourselves from exposure to EMF due to power lines, cell phones and the like, or risk the known consequences. The science is very strong and we should sit up and pay attention.”

‘Our health is endangered by insidious pollution’ says Jean Huss
"More and more scientific studies are proving links between certain pollutants and certain illnesses, such as allergies, respiratory problems, fertility problems or central nervous system disorders", said Jean Huss (Luxembourg, SOC), rapporteur of the Committee on the Environment, at the opening of a conference on the effects of a polluted environment on health, including pollution in our own homes.
There is an omnipresent cocktail of chemical, physical or biological agents which are all around us – electromagnetic fields, construction materials or toxic moulds – and now engendering new syndromes, Mr Huss said. He called for urgent action to make people realise the scale of the phenomenon.
His forthcoming report on the subject will highlight progress achieved in environmental protection and exemplary action by certain NGOs to alert public opinion and political decision-makers. He also aims to develop a few key points for a global strategy to prevent environment-related health risks. A further concern of the rapporteur is that, in terms of treatment, environment-related illnesses are often marginalised by healthcare systems, which regard them as psychiatric disorders. "Environmental medicine must be recognised as a discipline in its own right," he said.
The draft report is due to be debated by the Assembly during its April 2009 plenary session.

Electromagnetic Health
This is a new transatlantic group of concerned scientists, citizens with awareness and public spiritedness, like Dr Magda Havas who I had the pleasure of being helped by at the World Health Organisation Conference on Electro-Hypersensitivity in Prague in 2004. Among their resources are contacts with some of the most distinguished and knowledgeable scientists on this issue in the world. They are not only in the USA, but places like Sweden with very advanced research on health difficulties resulting from EMF and all low-level radiofrequency exposures.
One such very senior scientist explains this invisible energy and expresses his alarm about our exposure as follows, (borrowed from their website, my emphases) : http://www.electromagnetichealth.org/
David Carpenter, MD
Professor, Environmental Health Sciences, and Director, Institute for Health and the Environment, School of Public Health, University of Albany, New York, SUNY Co-Editor, The BioInitiative Report (http://www.bioinitiative.org/)
"Electromagnetic fields are packets of energy that does not have any mass, and visible light is what we know best. X-rays are also electromagnetic fields, but they are more energetic than visible light. Our concern is for those electromagnetic fields that are less energetic than visible light, including those that are associated with electricity and those used for communications and in microwave ovens. The fields associated with electricity are commonly called “extremely low frequency” fields (ELF), while those used in communication and microwave ovens are called “radiofrequency” (RF) fields. Studies of people have shown that both ELF and RF exposures result in an increased risk of cancer, and that this occurs at intensities that are too low to cause tissue heating. Unfortunately, all of our exposure standards are based on the false assumption that there are no hazardous effects at intensities that do not cause tissue heating. Based on the existing science, many public health experts believe it is possible we will face an epidemic of cancers in the future resulting from uncontrolled use of cell phones and increased population exposure to WiFi and other wireless devices. Thus it is important that all of us, and especially children, restrict our use of cell phones, limit exposure to background levels of Wi-Fi, and that government and industry discover ways in which to allow use of wireless devices without such elevated risk of serious disease. We need to educate decision-makers that ‘business as usual’ is unacceptable. The importance of this public health issue can not be underestimated.”

Remarkable - High Court victory parallels
Remarkable – Georgina Downs victory
The first remarkable aspect of this November 14th high court environmental victory by this determined lady and against the odds, is how closely the arguments of campaigners against the dangers to the public from widespread indiscriminate chemical pollution mirror those of low level pervasive electromagnetic radiation, EMR, exposure.
As is now usual the industry has its paid allies placed among those 'great and good' in positions of decisive infuence in the relevant government ministries and departments. DEFRA in this case, so the playing field on which rules and safety standards are set is tilted. The judge saw this for once, if we had the money for barristers maybe EMR would be exposed as dangerous in the same accumulative environmental way.
For those who missed this remarkable legal event it was reported in ‘The Guardian’ 15.11.08 and online as follows, with full report below by David Adam, Environment correspondent: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/nov/15/activists-pollution-pesticides-toxins-defra
“Campaigner wins seven-year battle to force rethink on use of pesticides
• Defra must reassess health risks and policy, says judge• Victim suffered 24 years of illness from crop spraying.
An environmental campaigner yesterday won a landmark victory against the government in a long-running legal battle over the use of pesticides. The high court ruled that Georgina Downs, who runs the UK Pesticides Campaign, had produced "solid evidence" that people exposed to chemicals used to spray crops had suffered harm.
The court said the government had failed to comply with a European directive designed to protect rural communities from exposure to the toxins. It said the environment department, Defra, must reassess its policy and investigate the risks to people who are exposed. Defra had argued that its approach to the regulation and control of pesticides was "reasonable, logical and lawful".
Downs, who lives on the edge of farmland near Chichester, West Sussex, launched her campaign in 2001. The judge described how she was first exposed to pesticide spraying at the age of 11 "and began to suffer from ill health, in particular flu-like symptoms, a sore throat, blistering and other problems".”
Also remarkable is these are almost identical to the symptoms complained about by those claiming an extra-sensitivity to the constant barrage from the accumulation of microwave and low-level EM radiation now broadcast as an ambient mixture in the environment. 80% of them are also chemically sensitive. The body complains about, and resists, all toxic environments in the same way, using the same bodily processes. This electro-pollution causing EHS, electrical hypersensitivity, is from domestic wiring, office equipment, mobile phones, micrwaves and wherever electricity is running and so creating electromagnetic fields. Also it frequently acts in concert with chemical pollution as 80% of sufferers report.
Some doctors, and the World Health Organisation, WHO, have discussed it as ‘Idiopathic Environmental Intolerance’, IEI, which simply means some individuals have this reaction, but 'why' is not yet understood. Well, at its simplest, because some people are more sensitive than others.
We say on the basis of my discussions with over 500 of those reporting EHS is that they have been over-exposed over time – not by simple individual exposures – but the accumulation of toxic damage to cells caused by constant ambient levels now widespread. The EMR compromises particularly the immune system by reducing essential melatonin hormone production. This is from the mutiplicity of devices and technologies now used added on top of a higher level of individual sensitivity in the first place, a simple biological difference we understand, like hay fever, or low tolerance to specific food items.
There is a great deal of new and breaking science, laboratory and clinical evidence examining this. This health damage is not uncovered by the crude simplicities of brief narrow exposures as undertaken by the research at Essex and Kings College under the aegis of the MTHR Health Protection Agency, part paid for by the mobile phone companies exploiting these risky technologies with representatives choosing researchers like Dr Simon Wessely a renowned professional sceptic on such issues, like ME, CFS and Gulf war syndrome.
Remarkable parallels:
Downs said “The Judge has agreed with my long-standing charge that this ‘bystander’ model does not and cannot address residents who are repeatedly exposed.” The model does not account for rural residents exposed to mixtures of pesticides and other chemicals "throughout every year and, in many cases like my own, for decades". Simply substitute Electromagnetic radiation mixtures, EMRM in high level local ‘electrospheres’ for ‘pesticides and chemicals’ in proximity.
The same applies to Georgina also saying: : "The fact that there has never been any assessment of the risk to health for the long-term exposure for those who live, work or go to school near pesticide-sprayed fields is an absolute scandal, considering that crop-spraying has been a predominant feature of agriculture for over 50 years."
For around a 100 years since the adoption and widespread use of electricity, and radiofrequency transmissions, various new ‘plagues’ like cancer and leukaemia, Parkinson’s and Alzheimers, have grown along with the increased background EMR levels. But no-one is responsible for, or studies, the totality of emissions 24/7, 365. Dr Samuel Milham *(see below) has looked at electrification causing childhood leukaemia in the USA.
The adherence to ‘standards’ on this issue means ONLY to thermal levels, heating of flesh, totally extreme and irrelevant to the signal itself in its coded format causing harm by biological interference. 'Internationally approved tests’ means only those approved by the almost totally industry dominated body called ICNIRP, the 'International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection', nobody else has an interest. This is poachers acting as gamekeepers.

EMFs are dangerous, fancy that!
Pylons 'double risk of dying from dementia'
LIVING close to pylons and high-voltage cables doubles the risk of dying from Alzheimer's disease and senile dementia, a study claims.
Researchers say they have found a direct link between the electromagnetic fields created by power lines and all types of dementia.
The study by doctors at Bern University's Institute of Social and Preventative Medicine in Switzerland is the latest evidence pointing to the dangers posed by power lines.
An estimated 150,000 Britons live within the 165ft danger zone of electricity pylons, according to Professor Denis Henshaw, an expert on human radiation.
And last night the University of Bristol scientist said: "It is now time that electricity pylons are pulled down and power cables are buried in highly populated areas of the country." However, National Grid, which manages the network, said putting highvoltage cables underground posed different risks and was prohibitively expensive.
It said: "Underground cabling for high-voltage lines can cost between six and 17 times as much as using overhead lines.
"Underground cables can also pose more of a risk because of the danger of them being hit by excavation, and they are more difficult to maintain."
The UK has at least 14,000 miles of high-voltage cable carrying electricity from power stations to homes and businesses.
The Swiss team, led by Professor Matthias Egger, found the risk of developing Alzheimer's increases the longer people live next to electricity pylons.
He said yesterday: "Anyone who lives within the immediate vicinity of high-voltage power lines for more than 10 years has a significantly higher risk of developing dementia or Alzheimer's."
The paper has been published in the American Journal of Epidemiology.
Professor Henshaw claims that radiation caused by power lines and other high-power electrical sources stops the body creating the natural hormone melatonin in the pineal gland, which is lacking in Alzheimer's sufferers.
He said: "This paper is like the final piece of a jigsaw. The link between childhood leukaemia and power lines is already accepted by everybody. And there is strong evidence of a link to other diseases as well."
Professor Egger warns that sleeping next to a radio-operated alarm clock or living beside an electrified railway line present a similar dementia risk, due to proximity of the radiation source and the strength of the electric charge. He said: "Anything that is plugged in and that is on all the time and that is near to your body is a source of this type of radiation."
National Grid said last night: "We recognise that there is some scientific evidence suggesting certain specific health effects may be linked to electric and magnetic fields. This can cause public concern.
"However, the balance of evidence remains against electric and magnetic fields causing ill health."
Last night the Department of Health said it was reviewing its position in the light of the study.

ES-support says don't hold your breath, we have sent them details of sickness with this kind of cause for years now and know of hundreds of others who have been ignored too. This 'hot potato' they will not pick up.
The DoH says on its website:
“In this country the National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB) advises on risks from radiations including electromagnetic fields.”
But they know full well the NRPB (which is actually now called the Health Protection Agency or HPA and has been for years) shrugs and says no risks are proven.
Well they never will be because nobody is properly looking, and others mercilessly, and I use the word advisedly, deny health effects, usually for commercial and PR reasons.
Professor Denis Henshaw I used to work with at ElectroSensitivity-UK. He is an advisor to the HPA, and angry they ignore his scientific linking of melatonin deficiency with health effects.

Michael is one of the hundreds of electro-sensitives who turned to us at ES-UK . I helped him in his understanding of what was happening to him. He was the fastest learner I ever dealt with and was supplying us with information within weeks, most usefully how he was dealing with it. As usual chiefly by avoidance, and a co-operative head who removed the WiFi from his classrooms.
Many who feel oddly unwell are unable to make the link, as he successfully did, with a subtle, or as in his case sometimes quite violent, change in their local electrosphere where they spend considerable time.

Its what I make of it.
This morning - half-term - teenage girls so what to do?
Ah-ha, the exhibition is in town, the Art and life.
Dear old Syd, why is he that? It used to be Syd Barret the Crazy Diamond who wacked up and left the Floyd, upped the ante over the edge and crashed and burned. Who was the Greek? The winged god in mythology who flew too close to the Sun? Ah, Icarus, he got disrespectful, and scorched his wings? Don't diss the big man baby, you are a flea.
Syd to me was always after the mad youthful MORE, do it, excess, try it, more of it, higher, where does it go and how far can we get? And he went for more for himself and all of us, chaaaarge!! Swinging a friendly peaceful axe into the thorny bush and undergrowth of post-war timorous conventionality and sterile temerity, the bowler-hatted and flat-capped staid staleness of pre-sixties Britain.
Oh yeah, all of us who were there, and dropping acid over the dope in that fine dawn, along with the Piper at the Gates and the Stellar Overdrive. Cosmic.
And now he is gone, and some of us are still here, without his questing.
And how on earth can I introduce my teenage daughters to the meaning of this man, his rise to some highest place of mind expansion, psychedelic blast, into atmospheres too thin to sustain a mind.
"No rules" Syd said, anarchy, but there are in nature and even within bands and pushed too far things become disorganised, break down, no order = derangement, and isolation from common humanity's common understanding. What do I know? We smoked joints off the same lump of hash maybe, but his space was miles away from mine, spinning out there while we drew back from overdrive.
Somehow though, in the garden with the clothes line or borrowing his bike with bells and rings and pretty things to make it look good, we met and melded in Astronomy Domine as he did in the same special way with so many others.
Looking forward to meeting him today:
Long live Syd. Ha, its not even his name!
Break
Now I must try to help this poor lady Yvonne, disbelieved, treated as mad because she was unable to articulate her sickness was due to the unregulated low-level radiation she was so unfortuately extra-sensitive to. Institutionalised for years as crazy too, now so thoroughly damaged I wonder how she can go on, or if she will for much longer.
And what can I do? So little it makes ESGuru a bad joke.
Its what I make of it.

The Ultimate Question

Why am I here?
From this question, for me, follow all the others. Most urgently, what should I be doing? NOW.
A double answer follows that.
We should all be doing what we feel good about, which means we must find some pleasure in it, satisfaction, growth and achievment. We can enjoy what we do, and we will then want to get on with it and may do it well. No point in half doing anything. What we do must have meaning for us, value.
As social animals that seems to me to mean doing what is valued by at least some others, those who understand what you are about. You cannot please everyone, some may appreciate your efforts later, some may denigrate your activities, but meanwhile share and press on.
If you are lucky, and what you do is sufficiently valued, then there will be people and organisations prepared to pay you to do it, great. But some important, necessary work, slips through the cracks of how our society and much of the world is now organised. Overwhelming weight is presently placed on 'the market' and the commercialisation of most activities. It can be necessary to go 'against the grain' of these pressures.
All who have ever worked with wood will know this throws up real difficulties, with saw or chisel following an unwanted path. In the real world those with an independent income, who can still be bothered, may sidestep the earthy fact you need income to survive, eat, sleep warm, and care for dependents and so on. Most of us cannot but need to be intensely careful about our compromising, our accomodating to the grain of the hard world, or out goes baby with the bathwater.
It can be a difficult balancing act, but if you persist with what you do not feel is worthwhile in your heart, you are tossing your life away as just a means to an end, some one else's end, when it is your ends that matter, that is the end in itself. To a great degree, you are what you do, you define yourself in your actions and become the fruit of your own potential.
Glorious words and sentiments eh!?
But they can all too often lead you to penury, derision and disillusion. For every successful achiever in any field a bunch of unlucky failures may be moodily sour at life's tricks.
Well then for myself it is the old song about "pick yourself up, dust yourself down and start all over again." Get pissed first perhaps too, that can briefly help with the hurt.
So now I find I AM AN ATHEIST ON A MISSION FROM GOD.
One day I will get around to explaing that paradox, if you ever saw 'The Blues Brothers' film you might have an insight, good luck with it.
My purpose is to defy all those who claim there are no health implications from certain widely used and extremely popular electromagnetic radiofrequency technologies and wizard gadgetry. I am not alone in this rather unpopular, unpaid, and much derided crusade. We have intensive scientific backing, much truth few bucks.
Crusade? Well according to my internet dictionary, the third meaning, and leaving religion out of it, is:
“any vigorous, aggressive movement for the defense or advancement of an idea, cause, etc.: eg. a crusade against child abuse”.

At least, my sun is shining and for what that means have a look at our http://electrosensitivity-support.com/ website
